Palm Springs Real Estate Information
Palm Springs is a medium sized community found in the southern portion of the Golden State, California. Palm Springs has a population of approximately forty two thousand eight hundred residents, making it rather populous for its location in the Coachella Valley. Palm Springs is somewhat similar to the cities of Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the sense that they were both brought into existence from a desert landscape, leading to their designation as desert cities. Palm Springs real estate is spread out over a total area of just above ninety five square miles, including a meager four fifths of a square mile of surface water. Palm Springs has a population density of almost five hundred persons per square mile, and has a metropolitan area including more than four hundred and ten thousand residents.
Palm Springs has a rather low average median household and per capita income, although this does not necessarily reflect a state of widespread poverty. Rather, it is an indication of the large number of retirees that decide to purchase Palm Springs homes for sale. The original inhabitants of what is now considered Palm Springs were the Agua Caliente tribe of Cahuilla Indians, who now reside predominately in the Agua Caliente Reservation. Palm Springs' recent popularity is largely attributable to the year-round high temperatures, which resulted in a boost to the real estate and hospitality sectors of the economy. The name “Palm Springs” is most likely taken from a US government survey which listed the location of a spring near two palm groves.
The educational needs of Palm Springs are met predominately by the Palm Springs Unified School District, which includes a total of fourteen elementary schools, the middle schools of Desert Springs, James Workman, Nellie N. Coffman, and Raymond Cree, as well as four high schools and eight preschools. There are also a number of private schools available to residents of Palm Springs houses for rent, including Xavier College Preparatory High and Marywood-Palm Valley School. Points of interest in Palm Springs include the Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium, the San Jacinto Mountains, and the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies.
