Desert Hot Springs is a medium sized community found in the southeastern section of the Golden State, California. Desert Hot Springs has a population of approximately sixteen thousand six hundred residents, making it one of the smaller communities in the greater Palm Springs area but still a medium sized community overall. Desert Hot Springs is technically considered a part of the Coachella Valley as well as of Riverside County. Desert Hot Springs is often abbreviated to the three letters “DHS”, and is currently governed by Mayor Yvonne Parks. Desert Hot Springs real estate is especially popular during the winter months of the year, when so-called “snowbirds” from northern states travel from their homes to enjoy the almost year-round sunshine and warm weather in the region.

Real estate in Desert Hot Springs is spread out over a total area of slightly less than twenty three and a third square miles, a figure which includes literally no substantially large bodies of standing surface water. This gives Desert Hot Springs a population density of approximately seven hundred and eleven persons per square mile, a statistic which may have changed considerably since the last census was taken in the year two thousand. Desert Hot Springs takes its name from the naturally occurring hot mineral aquifers that spring above ground in the region. They provide an added boost to the resort and tourism industry since they provide an additional and possibly medically beneficial reason to live in or visit the city of Desert Hot Springs.

The first non-Native American permanent resident of Desert Hot Springs on record was an individual by the name of Cabot Yerxa, who also has the distinction of discovering the hot water springs. The town was officially founded on July 12, 1941 by LW Coffee. Homes in Desert Hot Springs are characterized by commonly adhering to the modernist school of architecture, which seems to add to the allure of the community. The springs that gave Desert Hot Springs its name have been recognized by Tripadvisor on a repeated basis as being some of the “Best Hidden Gem” spas, while two local spas were recognized by the same authority as being a “Best Service” spa.
