La Quinta Real Estate Information
La Quinta is a medium sized community found in the southeastern section of the state of California, which is often colloquially known as the “Golden State.” La Quinta is situated in Riverside County, and is considered a part of the Coachella Valley, an area which is often considered interchangeably with the Palm Springs area. La Quinta has a population of approximately twenty three thousand seven hundred residents, although that figures fluctuates considerably depending on the month. Additionally, that statistic is current only as of the census conducted in the year two thousand, so there may have been significant changes since that point in time. La Quinta real estate is heavily residential and resort oriented, possibly contributing to the community's nickname of “The Gem of the Desert”.
La Quinta is notable as being home to one of the hundred best golf courses in the United States of America, the Quarry at La Quinta, which was designed by Tom Fazio. A new addition to the golfing landscape of the city, the SilverRock Golf Resort, was a host for the two thousand eight Bob Hope Chrysler Classic PGA golf tournament. Real estate in La Quinta is spread out over a total area of approximately thirty two and one fifth square miles, including two fifths of a square mile of standing surface water, a rare commodity in the generally arid Palm Springs region. The original inhabitants of the area which is now considered La Quinta were Native Americans of the Cahuilla tribe, although they were soon displaced by a flood of European explorers and settlers spearheaded by Spanish conquistadors.
Homes in La Quinta are especially popular during the winter months, when the tourist industry is at its peak thanks to the arrival of so-called “snow birds” from northern states. The educational needs of La Quinta are met primarily by the Desert Sands Unified School District, which includes a total of six elementary schools, La Quinta, John Glenn, and Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle Schools, and La Quinta High School. Notable residents of La Quinta throughout the years include Merv Griffin, Tyler Hilton, and Mitchell Paige.
