Palm Desert Real Estate Information
Palm Desert is a medium sized community found in the southeastern portion of the state of California. Palm Desert has a population of approximately forty one thousand two hundred residents, and has grown substantially in the last three decades. Palm Desert real estate is especially popular among regular residents of northern states, who are able to take advantage of the much warmer temperatures of Palm Desert during the harsh winter months of their home states. Palm Desert is considered a part of the Coachella Valley, which is also known as the Palm Springs area. Palm Desert is found about eleven miles away from the city of Palm Springs, which it may soon eclipse in population size if it has not already. Real estate in Palm Desert covers a total area of just over twenty four and a half square miles, including some spots of surface water that are exceedingly rare in the generally arid Coachella Valley region. The area which is now considered Palm Desert went by two different names before receiving its current designation – Old MacDonald Ranch and Palm Village, the latter of which was adopted to reflect the planting of date palm trees. The original inhabitants of what is now considered Palm Desert were Cahuilla Native Americans of the San Cayetano tribe. The current mayor of Palm Desert is Jean Benson, and the city is technically considered a part of Riverside County. Palm Desert has a typical population density of slightly over one thousand six hundred residents per square mile, although that figure rises substantially during the winter months.
Palm Desert houses are notable for being home to some notable individuals and celebrities, including Rita Rudner, Bill Gates, and Michelle Wie. The educational needs of Palm Desert are met primarily by the Desert Sands Unified School District, which includes Palm Desert High School, Palm Desert Middle School, and several elementary schools. Palm Desert also boats several notable private schools, the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, the College of the Desert, and a campus of California State University. Some points of interest include El Paseo, Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and a number of golf courses and resorts.
